FOCUSING ON A GROWTH MINDSET
Let's talk about the power of not yet. How often in life do we find ourselves in situations where our expectations about our future, our goals and our projects that we put all our energy into are different from what reality brings us. And how often these situations lead to our self-doubt, lack of motivation and ultimately our choice to simply give up. But let's put this in a different perspective.
While it's certainly not conventional, it can be a better way to learn to look differently at things like struggles, challenges, and most importantly, failures. First, it feels a lot less definitive. It suggests that change is possible and that there is room for improvement and time to grow to what it takes to succeed. If you look at it from a different perspective, the perspective that comes from a growth mindset, you'll see that instead of being a "No", it's more like a "Not quite yet, but I'll keep trying". If you are in a growth mindset, you will understand that you are on a learning curve, which gives you a path to the future. It gives you something to work towards and strive for. Yes, it takes a little more time and effort, but what's more important is that it gives you purpose. And more than that, the growth mindset makes everything you try to achieve become possible. But to get there, you need to understand the difference between "No" and "Not yet". Position yourself for success and celebrate your failures as steps that get you closer to success. Remember, just because you're not there right now, doesn't mean you're not going to get there at some point.
